Whitchurch ruthlessly got their Midlands Counties League One promotion push back on track with a record-breaking 132–0 demolition of Tamworth on Saturday.

Following last week’s defeat at Shrewsbury, Whitchurch went into the game needing a response – and found it immediately.

The afternoon started badly for the visitors as they received the kick off, spilled the ball for Whitchurch to pick it up and pass to James Marvell on the wing to score under the posts in the first minute. George Owen kicked the conversion.

The home side then received the and the defensive frailties of the travelling team showed as man of the match Alfie Linnington broke through tackles to score again for Owen to convert.

Whitchurch were relentless in the opening period, running in tries from all over the park.

George Owen got the next try on the 15 minute mark followed by two more tries from James Marvell, Robbie Leighton and Tom Tilley while Linnington also added his second while veteran Steve Bloore made it 71-0 at the break.

It was the same story after the break and two tries from Will Lever and two more each from Leighton and Marvell exhausted the scoreboard with Ben Mason, Alex Clarke and Henry Appleby completing a record-breaking Whitchurch scoreline.

There was more good news for the club as the second team travelled to Newcastle and recorded a 49-7 win to leave them unbeaten and now four points clear at the top of division four.

Two early tries from Tom Skone got them off to a good start before man of the match Henry Hockenhull added another for Skone to convert.

Matt Slark scored two tries to take the game out of reach for the Newcastle side with Bruno Ball, James Ryder, and Teddy Ravenscroft also crossing before Slark completed his hat-trick.
