Police and trading standards have seized a “sizeable haul” of illegal tobacco after a raid yesterday.

West Mercia Police and Shropshire Council’s trading standards team confirmed that a targeted search saw a large amount of tobacco and an untaxed car being seized.

Officers from across north Shropshire’s Safer Neighbourhood Team and sniffer dogs were part of the operation which took place yesterday (February 25).

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “Safer Neighbourhood Team officers from across North Shropshire joined forces with trading standards for a targeted visit that led to a sizeable haul of illegal tobacco being seized.

“A vehicle was also removed from the roads after it was found to have no valid road tax.

“For those of us living here, it means less illicit tobacco circulating in our community, and one more untaxed vehicle taking a break from the roads.”
