A lorry driver has lost his licence after he drove while drunk in Whitchurch.

John McCormick, of no fixed abode, admitted drink driving when he was brought before Telford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (December 9).

The court was told the 45-year-old was driving a Scania Lorry on the A41 on December 8 when the offence was committed.

He had 50 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35ug.

McCormick was given a 12-month community order to include a six-month alcohol treatment programme.

He was given the obligatory disqualification from driving 12 months and fined £120.

The defendant must also pay £85 in court costs.
