Plans to renovate Malpas fire station have been approved by the council planning committee.

Cheshire West and Chester Council have given the green light to plans which would see the fire station on Chester Road renovated.

The plans put forward by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service will see the station made more energy efficient, improve access and make changes to the appearance.

In documents submitted to the council the plans sought “permission for overcladding of existing profiled sheet roofing with new insulation and profiled roof sheeting, installation of photovoltaics to roof, replacement of appliance bay doors, insulated panel door and timber framed windows and doors.”

The will also be the “formation of new entrance door complete with level access landing, installation of feature render to walls to appliance bay section and installation of new flagpole.”

To achieve these works there will also be “alterations to existing car park.”

In its application to the council Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service argued that “The building and external works will remain essentially as existing. All changes being made relate to minor changes of material and repairs to existing fabric.

“No new structures are proposed, so the development will not impact any onsite habitats.”

The planning officer at Cheshire West and Chester Council gave their approval of the plans.

In their report it said: “It is considered that the proposed works are in keeping with the design and character of this existing functional building and would not be a detriment to the surrounding area or affect the setting of the adjacent Conservation Area.

“Furthermore, the proposed works would not have a significant adverse impact on health or quality of life, having particular regard to residential amenity or have an unacceptable impact in respect of highway safety.

It goes on to add: “The parking layout approved under the previous application (Ref: 21/03940/FUL) was not implemented. As such, the current proposal represents a more effective use of space and introduces improved parking features.

“The submitted plans incorporate two EV charging points, a designated disabled parking space, and additional parking spaces.”
