Two local businesses have made donations to support the Whitchurch Rotary prostate testing event.

Pronin Limited in Waymills, and Dourish & Day estate agents, in Green End, have joined a list of financial backers, including Whitchurch Town Council.

This year marks a decade since Dave Simcock launched Shropshire's first Rotary prostate screening initiative.

Testing will be held at Whitchurch Rugby Club, Edgeley Road, on October 6 from 6pm to 9pm.

Confidential tests will be free for men aged 45 to 79.

The event is believed to be the UK's largest Rotary community health project, with nearly 1,000 attendees last year.

A team of professional phlebotomists, along with members from Rotary and Inner Wheel, and volunteer supporters, is being assembled by Mr Simcock.

His 10-year campaign earned him the title of Whitchurch Citizen of the Year.

Mr Simcock said: "Prostate cancer is the most common cancer for men in the UK – over 56,000 are diagnosed each year, and since this screening project began in 2015, it is known to have saved several lives by flagging up the condition early enough for action to be taken."

He added that more than 30 men were advised to seek further tests last year.
