A COW needed rescuing from a ditch in Malpas on Tuesday, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.

Crews from Chester and Winsford, plus colleagues from Whitchurch, were sent to Bradley Brook Lane shortly before 11.30am on August 12.

A spokesperson for Whitchurch Fire Station said: "At 11.30am we attended a large animal rescue near Malpas with our appliance and 4x4 vehicle to assist our Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service colleagues from Chester, Winsford and Knutsford who are Cheshire's animal rescue team.

"Luckily, a local farmer was at hand to assist us in removing bushes and undergrowth to enable an easier rescue of the cow."

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service added: “Crews were called to a cow stuck in a ditch in Malpas.

“Firefighters assisted a vet and farmer in getting a halter and hip clamp on the cow and rescued it using farm machinery.

“The cow was then handed over to the care of the farmer and vet.”
