The club will build a new pavilion after its success in recent years saw it outgrow its current facilities.
Ellesmere Cricket Club is one of the oldest in Shropshire dating back over 150 years and currently has nearly 150 members.
The club is “the only club in Shropshire with two ladies’ softball teams, with a hardball team planned for next year”.
As a result, a planning application was made to Shropshire Council in May for a replacement cricket pavilion and associated car parking.

In its application to Shropshire Council, the club said: “The current clubhouse was built in the early 1970s with a simple construction comprising a concrete base and wooden frame and walls.
“Unfortunately, the concrete base has experienced movement and has cracked as a result.
"Although the building has served the Ellesmere Cricket Club (ECC) well over the years it no longer meets modern standards of construction, energy efficiency, accessibility etc.
“Further, due to the welcome success of ECC since 2003, the building is no longer able to adequately serve the membership and community to an appropriate level.
“ECC now has two senior sides in the Shropshire County Cricket League for both men and women.

“There is also a Senior XI and boys and girls junior teams. The clubhouse has two changing rooms, however ECC cannot continue to grow without a new Cricket Pavillion as the current one doesn’t have appropriate facilities for ladies changing or disabled access.”
The new facilities will see “significantly enhanced changing facilities/toilets and proportionately larger function room (seating 150 people), club room and kitchen, there are also bespoke rooms for the umpire, office administration and modern building plant”.
“The new building is designed to current English Cricket board (ECB) standards that are inclusive and provide integrated facilities for players, officials and spectators of all ages, culture, ability and gender.”
