A historic Ellesmere farming estate is opening its gates for Open Farm Sunday.

The Oteley Estate, a 2,000-acre farm with Beef Shorthorn and Highland cattle, sheep, and pigs, will provide visitors with a glimpse into farm life on June 8.

Situated on the eastern shores of the mere, the farm will allow the public to explore its operations, food production processes, and environmental management efforts.

This is part of the broader Open Farm Sunday initiative, running since 2006, which has seen more than 2,000 farms across Britain welcome more than 3.25 million visitors.

The open day will also feature close-up views of some farm machinery.

Clare Mainwaring from the farm team said: "Come and learn about life on a farm in our beautiful surroundings.

"It’ll be a great day out, with refreshments available in our old stable yard, a range of stalls, our farm shop selling homegrown produce, and lots to see and do."

The event will be open from 10am until 4pm.

Entry is free, but visitors are requested to register in advance at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/open-farm-sunday-tickets-1381733354659.

The estate’s gardens will also be open for exploration.

These feature a clock tower, Swiss Cottage, walled kitchen garden, woodland, and views across the mere.

However, garden entry is £6 for adults, while it's free for children, and dogs on leads are welcome.

The Oteley Estate’s café and farm shop, stocked with homegrown produce, will also be open on the day and throughout the week, from Thursday to Sunday.
