More than 200 solar panels are to be placed on the roof of a Co-Op supermarket.
Dean Hill, of Big Solar Cooperative, submitted an application to Shropshire Council to see if prior approval was needed for 239 panels to be placed at the Wem branch in Morris Central Shopping Park.
The application form states that installation would be completed in line with
permitted development requirements for non-domestic buildings.
“Installed solar panels will be black-framed and have anti-reflective surface treatment,” said Mr Hill.
“The existing roof surface is a light grey colour and will be covered by the darker, anti-reflective glass of the solar PV panels, as such we do not anticipate any glint and glare issues at this site.”
Tabitha Lythe, planning and development services manager at Shropshire Council, informed that Mr Hill that prior approval was not required, and based on the submitted information, the design and external appearance of the installation would be acceptable and would not have an adverse impact on occupiers of neighbouring land through glare.
