A TRAPPED sparrowhawk needed rescuing by Shropshire firefighters in Whitchurch on Saturday early evening after it became stuck in netting.
One Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crew with an aerial ladder was dispatched from Shrewsbury to Whitchurch High Street at around 6.30pm on Saturday.
The bird of prey was stuck in the netting that was placed on the roof of the St Mary’s Arcade shopping centre while eyewitnesses said that wildlife rescue staff were also present.

Onlookers called the male sparrowhawk Jack Sparrow but added that he was in great distress but ‘thankfully came away without any long-term damage’.
A SFRS spokesman confirmed that staff rescued the bird.

They said: “Crews assisted in the rescue of a sparrowhawk stuck in netting on the roof.
“Crews used the aerial ladder platform as a safe working platform to successfully carry out the rescue.”
A stop message was sent to SFRS control at around 8pm to confirm no further support was required.
