Fire crews were called out after reports of thick smoke near Ellesmere – only to find a small bonfire.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called out Lyneal, near Ellesmere yesterday evening (Sunday, April 14) after a member of the public reported “thick black smoke” raising concerns that a fire had spread in the area.
However when the crew arrived they did not discover any major fire and after further inspection they only found a “small domestic bonfire” in a resident’s garden.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 8.16pm on Sunday, April 14, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Smoke In Area in Ellesmere.
“One fire appliance was mobilised from Ellesmere.
“Reports of thick black smoke in area. After investigations by crews one small domestic bonfire was found, responsible person in attendance.
“No action was taken by the fire service.”
