A WEM woman had to be rescued from her property by firefighters after a kitchen fire on Wednesday evening.

One crew from Wem was joined by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) colleagues from Whitchurch and Hodnet to attend the Aston Road property shortly before 5pm.

According to a SFRS spokesman, both West Mercia Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service were both on the scene.

They added: “Crews used breathing apparatus, a covering jet, a hosereel jet and positive pressure ventilation to tackle the fire.

“It was a fire within the kitchen of a property and one person rescued from the building by the fire service.”

A stop message was sent to SFRS control around 30 minutes later to confirm no further support was needed.

A spokesman for WMAS confirmed a woman was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as a precaution.

They said:  “We were called at 5.10pm on Wednesday by the fire service to a fire at a property in Aston Road, Wem in Shrewsbury.
