WHITCHURCH Town Council is set to hold an extraordinary full council meeting to discuss the future of the Civic Centre.

The meeting, which will be held in private, is set to be hosted at the District Club, in St John’s Park, as the town’s main building continues to largely be out of use for council matters after RAAC was identified.

The Market Hall is still in use.

Proper officer Mike McDonald, from Whitchurch Town Council, confirmed the item will be heard in private on Thursday, January 11.

He, alongside town mayor Councillor Andy Hall, will give a verbal update on the current state of affairs in relation to the Civic Centre.

OTHER NEWS:

The meeting has been called ahead of any report released to Shropshire Council’s Cabinet the following Wednesday (January 17) where a decision is expected on the long-term future of the Civic Centre.

Its closure was confirmed in November after ‘critical’ levels of RAAC was found and has led to the library being closed, and postponement of a deal to move Whitchurch’s driving test centre into the building.

The meeting begins at 7pm.
