TRIBUTES have been made following the death of a well-known Shropshire cricketer John Faulkner.

The Iscoyd and Fenns Bank Cricket Club legend passed away on Friday, aged 88.

A club spokesman said: "Faulky was well known in Shropshire Cricket circles for his 68 year association with Fenns and he will be sorely missed by everyone at the club."

The Mansfield Shropshire Cricket League club will continue next season but accepted the absence of the club legend would be felt for some time to come.

The statement added: "It is often considered that the club would have folded over the years had it not been for Faulky’s dedication to keep it going.

"As well as the thousands of runs he scored, he was a real gentleman and was held in high regard by all who met him.

"He was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Cricket Shropshire in 2012 as recognition to his service to cricket.

"Thank you for the memories, Faulky. Rest easy."
