Approval has been granted for the construction of a new hangar at an airfield near Wem.

Justin Griffiths at Sleap Airfield in Harmer Hill, applied for the construction of a new aircraft hangar at Bilmarsh Farm.

The proposal is to build a new portal framed aircraft hangar on the site of a former hangar on the already established site.

The application read: “Currently the site is made up of a former hangar plot and hardcore yard area.”

Although approved, officers from the Planning Committee have set out some conditions that require approval before the building starts.

These conditions include the construction of an external woodcrete bat box, installation of at least two artificial nests suitable for starlings, and the provision of a minimum of one hedgehog box.

Furthermore, the initiation of any external lighting on the premises requires the submission of a lighting plan.

The development can also only be used as an aircraft hangar, so to ensure “proper control” of the development.
