RESIDENTS around Wem and its surrounding villages are being warned to prepare for potential flooding on Friday.

The Environment Agency (EA) has issued a flood alert for the Tern and Perry catchment areas as of Thursday, with heavy rain from Storm Babet causing water levels to rise.

This means that an alert has been raised for rivers in the catchment including the River Roden which passes through Wem.

A EA spokesman said: “Flooding is possible in this area.

“Monitor local water levels and weather conditions. Avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.

“The flood alert area is rivers Tern, Perry, Roden, Strine and Meese and their tributaries.”
