A SPECIAL film day for the over-60s in one north Shropshire town has returned with an absolute classic from the 1980s.

The 1983 Bafta award-winning film Local Hero will be screened for free at Ellesmere’s Our Space community hub, in Trimpley Street, on Saturday, October 7.

Our Space assistant manager Mike Grierson said he hopes that the day will be enjoyed by all, and says it is open to those living with dementia.

“Our aim is to provide an inclusive, enjoyable cinema experience for the over-60s including those affected by dementia.

“There’s no charge and we’ll be providing free refreshments.”

The film is the latest in a series of free morning sessions for the over-60s featuring movie classics.

Produced by David Puttnam, the comedy-drama stars Burt Lancaster as a Texan oil tycoon buying-up a Scottish fishing village.

The film also features Jenny Seagrove, former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, and Fulton McKay of Porridge fame.

The screening takes place between 10am and midday.

Our Space is based in the old cottage hospital building which also includes the library.
