CELEBRATIONS of more than three centuries of bowling in Ellesmere saw plenty of guests enjoy a day of fun last week.

Guests were allowed onto the ‘top green’ at Ellesmere Bowling Club for a day of picnics and entertainment to celebrate the club and also look to raise funds for new facilities.

A spokesman for the club thanked all who came and praised the day.

They said: “Despite the weather on the previous Saturday, the celebration on Sunday, August 6 was wonderfully clear and bright for Ellesmere Bowling Club to celebrate 325 years of bowling in Ellesmere with its garden party on the top green.

“The crowd was treated to music from The Tra-La Lasses as singers Abbie, Lorna and Lin delighted the audience by performing a diverse range of songs from folk to blues, to jazz to pop, their beautiful voices singing in close harmony leaving audiences uplifted, and they were called back for encore after encore.

“With a wide array of homemade cakes for sale, burgers and sausages from Hawkins butchers in Ellesmere – no one went hungry.

“The raffle was well supported with a range of local companies supplying the prizes, full list published on Facebook.

“Special mention must go to Shropshire Homes for their sponsorship of this event, which raised nearly £1,000 for much-needed new floodlamps.”
