Two community projects near Whitchurch have been awarded almost £20,000 in National Lottery funding.

The Horseman's Green Community Group and Penley Youth Club both received more than £8,000 each to help with projects after the latest round of funding by the National Lottery Community Fund.

According to a spokesman for the National Lottery, the community group will receive £8,119.

This will be used to replace the furniture in the village hall "so that the community can be safe and comfortable".

Meanwhile, the youth club has been awarded £9,570.

The spokesperson explained that the money was granted after the club applied to use the £9,570 “to set up a weekly, accessible club for young people in the village and surrounding areas."

They added that is hoped that “the club will reduce isolation, improve well-being, and address the effects of the cost of living crisis.”

The funding awarded to these groups was part of a larger support given by National Lottery Community Fund in Wales.

In their recent announcement, they revealed that more than 110 communities across Wales successfully applied for grants.

This has led to the fund giving away money to projects across the country awarding a grand total of £2,462,329.

The National Lottery Community Fund is “the largest non-statutory community funder in the UK” and claims “community is at the heart of our purpose, vision and name”.

The fund supports “activities that create resilient communities that are more inclusive and environmentally sustainable and that will strengthen society and improve lives across the UK.”

The fund has said that they “distribute around £500 million a year through 10,000+ grants and plan to invest over £4 billion of funding into communities by 2030”.
