ELLESMERE Flower Club members were out in force last week for a demonstration at the town hall.

On a warm sunny evening last Thursday, May 25 in Ellesmere Town Hall members and friends of Ellesmere & District Flower Club came together to watch NAFAS North West Area demonstrator Kathleen Williams.

Kathleen, from Oldham in Greater Manchester, demonstrated her talk, titled “Poetry in Motion” where was inspired to put her floral skills and imagination into play through extracts of poetry that she recalled from her childhood days.

A club spokesman said: “She delighted her audience by using a selection of good quality seasonal British home-grown flowers and introduced them to Table Scape arranging which is popular in Holland.

“She was welcomed by chairman Sylvia Williams and thanked by president Rachel Hughes. Hostesses for the evening were Pauline Burrell and Myfi Jones

“The draw prizes were won by Christine Roberts, Hazel Hall, Ruth Morris, Anne Aird, Pauline Burrell, Ruth Roberts, Phyllis Dean, Sarah Cooke, Sylvia Williams and Catherine Hopley.

“Tea and biscuits were provided and served by Ann Thomas and Ian Woolley.”

Chairman Sylvia announced the Ellesmere & District Gardeners Club afternoon tea outing on Tuesday, July 4 to Preen Manor Gardens Church Stretton.

The spokesman added: “On the noticeboard NAFAS News picture and write-up of the club's 60th anniversary, plus cancellation of the NAFAS M&NW Area Open Garden and Lunch on June 17.

“And also details of tickets (£25) on sale for the Area President's Day at Cockshutt Millennium Hall on September 16, 2023 including a demonstration with NAFAS National Demonstrator Lorena Dyer from Coventry.”

The next club meeting will be on Thursday, June 22 at 7.30pm in Ellesmere Town Hall when NAFAS M&NW Area demonstrator Cynthia Preston-Jones from Bucknell, south Shropshire will demonstrate “Dedicated Follower of Fashion”.

Visitors are most welcome at £8 on the door.
