LIGHTNING hitting a tree in a north Shropshire village has led to firefighters being called out on Tuesday.
The rare phenomenon happened shortly before 1pm in Wistanwick, a small village close to the A41, between Whitchurch and Hinstock.
One crew of Shropshire firefighters was called to the scene at Chapel Bank.
A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesman said: “It was a fire involving a tree hit by lightning.
“The fire was extinguished by crew using one hose reel jet and a short extension ladder.”
A message was sent to SFRS control at 1.28pm to confirm no further assistance was needed.
