A COMMUNITY group near Whitchurch has raised more than £200 after holding fundraisers.

Horseman's Greeen Community Group held a coffee morning for North East Wales Search and Rescue and a beetle drive for the community fund.

They raised £100 and £140, respectively.

The group also had North East Wales Search and Rescue volunteer Chris Griffiths give a talk on the service.

A spokesperson said: "The community group hosted a posh coffee morning with a more serious tone.

"Chris Griffiths a local North East Wales Search and Rescue volunteer gave an illustrated talk on this essential fourth emergency service.

"It is hard to believe that such an important service is dependent upon volunteers, many of whom are retired, but are willing to be on-call 24 hours a day and seven days a week for 52 weeks of the year.

"Not only that it has to be self-financing receiving less than £1,000 per year from the Welsh Government.

"It was certainly an interesting and very thought provoking talk.

"Thanks go to all who attended, donated cakes and helped at this special coffee morning which raised nearly £100 for the organisation."

Following the talk, the group also held the beetle drive and different generations took part.

The spokesperson said: "It was an absolutely delightful evening as squeals rang out – a body or head was secured.

"What was particularly special was the audience included several grandparents out for a night of family fun with their grandchildren, leaving parents’ at home for a quiet night in.

"Tea, coffee and light refreshments were served at the interval.

"With an optional raffle included the evening raised approximately £140 for the Community Hall fund."
