A CHRISTMAS fayre in a village near Whitchurch has been hailed by organisers.

The fayre was organised by the non-profit group Calverhall-in-Bloom and it took place in Calverhall in the village hall on Saturday, December 3 and a total of £820 was raised on the day.

Calverhall-in-Bloom will use the money to purchase an environmentally friendly watering system for the multiple planters and troughs they maintain around the village.

There were plenty of stalls in the village hall for people to enjoy and Calverhall-in-Bloom chairman, Jonathan Hales-Povey, hailed the event.

He added: "It is absolutely incredible to see how the community came out in force to support us.

"Without their support and attendance at our fundraising events, we quite simply wouldn’t be able to do what we do.

"We’d also like to say a massive thank you to all the stallholders who attended, as well as 'Georgie's Beauty Salon,' 'Little Beginnings Baby Store,' 'Lorna's House,' 'Somerville's Christmas Trees' and 'The Olde Jack Inn' who gifted us some fantastic raffle prizes and of course the Whitchurch Rotary Club who loaned us a Santa suit for the event."

The event received positive feedback from both store holders and visitors.

Sarah Ralphs from Calverhall-in-Bloom said: "It was a huge success, which saw a variety of stallholders in attendance from throughout the county, from soap and bath-bomb makers, to yarn dyers, glass workers and jewellers.

"The group received great feedback from the community, with one resident saying it was a 'lovely Christmas Fayre' with a 'good variety of stalls.'

"Stallholders were equally complimentary and described how impressed they were by the community spirit and support from local residents."

Calverhall-in-Bloom was set up in 2020 by Jonathan to help promote the environment and mental wellbeing.

Sarah said: "Calverhall in Bloom was established in 2020, as a part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s 'In Bloom' competition by Jonathan Hales-Povey after the Covid-19 lock-downs.

"Seeing the effects that isolation had on his community, Jonathan sought to create a group where locals could come together to improve their village and mental well-being as well as spread awareness of the importance of supporting the environment."
