A BROADBAND service provider will be launching a fund in Whitchurch as part of a campaign to support green causes.

Non-profit community groups in the town will be able to apply for funds to support an environmental project.

The company said it intends to ensure the funds are available for communities by 2023.

It added: "Freedom Fibre is delighted to launch the Freedom Fund, a fund to support good and green causes in communities where we are rolling out our lightning-fast, full-fibre network.

"Thousands of pounds worth of funding for green projects is up for grabs.

"Non-profit community groups in and around Weaverham, Whitchurch, Culcheth and Irlam can apply for up to £250 to support their environmental project.

"It is envisaged that the Freedom Fund will be available to all communities where we are rolling out our network by 2023.

"Applicants are encouraged to check whether they are in the eligible zone.

"All projects must meet two of the criteria.

"It must contribute to cleaner air and to cleaner and plentiful water.

"It must support plants and wildlife to thrive and reduce the risk of harm from environmental hazards such as flooding and drought.

"The project must use resources from nature in a sustainable and efficient way and enhance the beauty and heritage of the natural environment and engagement with it.

"It needs to mitigate climate change and minimise waste.

"It needs to manage exposure to chemicals and enhance biosecurity."
