WEM Civic Society's latest speaker will be straight to the point when she pops in for a chat later today (Tuesday, October 18).
Pen Turner will discuss Archery – Ancient and Modern, and its place in our history, language, and culture.
After travelling around the world and achieving some of the things on her ‘wish list’, Pen is now happily settled in Shropshire.
Ahead of the meeting, she said: “Since taking up archery about 10 years ago I have come across some interesting facts about my chosen sport that I have now put together as a talk.
"I start by looking at the history of archery; first as a weapon of war, and its place in English history, then how it became a leisure activity and the form it takes today.
"I also reveal its influence on our culture and language – which is more than you might realise!"

The meeting starts at 7.30pm. It will be held in Wem Town Hall.
The talk is free to members of the society; non-members can attend on the payment of £2.50.
Wem Apple Juice will be on sale at the meeting. Over a ton of apples was collected by Wem Combine Harvesters at the time of the Harvest Market and has now been turned into apple juice.
The society promises that there will be no live archery events involving apples.
Civic Society cards will also be on sale.
