THE man charged with the murder of Rebecca Steer in Oswestry will face Shrewsbury Crown Court on Friday after appearing before magistrates today.

Stephen McHugh, 27, of Artillery Road in Park Hall, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates Court via video link from Telford Police Station on Wednesday afternoon (October 12) charged with murder, causing grievous bodily harm and driving offences.

He is accused of murdering 22-year-old Rebecca Steer in an incident outside Grill Out in Willow Street during the early hours of Sunday, October 9.

He is also accused of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent to cause harm against a second victim, Kyle Roberts, while also facing charges of failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and driving without third party insurance.

McHugh, dressed in prison clothing, did not enter a plea and is expected to be on remand at HMP Hewell in Worcestershire.

The local area has seen an outpouring of tributes following the death of the 22-year-old, who is from Llanymynech.

A 28-year-old man from Oswestry who was also arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the family of Ms Steer said: “We are all completely devastated by the loss of our beautiful girl Rebecca. She always had a smile and a laugh that made everybody love her.

“She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. She was the best daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend anyone could ask for.”
