A MAJOR development that would see more than 500 homes and a new primary school built in Whitchurch have been formally submitted.

Joint applicants Barrett Homes and David Wilson Homes (BDWH) want to build 561 new homes, along with a primary school, sports pitches and plenty of parking on land west of Tilstock Road.

Last month they launched a consultation on the development.

And they have now formally submitted their proposals for full planning permission which will go before Shropshire Council.

So far, there have been no comments from members of the public or Whitchurch Town Council either supporting or objecting to the proposal.

Louisa Ward, on behalf of estate agent Avison Young, which is working closely with the developers, said the site was originally promoted for housing through the local development plan.

She continued: "BDWH’s objective is to create a high quality, sustainable and distinctive place to live, that will meet a variety of housing needs (including affordable housing) while being sympathetic to its surroundings.

"The development proposed is well connected to the facilities within the town."

OTHER NEWS:

An outline proposal for 500 homes, primary school, sports pitches, convenience retail space and a play area was given the green light in May 2015, with reserved matters for the homes being approved in sections between 2016 and 2022. However, the formation of the football pitches and clubhouse, plus 151 homes were refused in August, this year.

Ms Ward added: "BDWHs proposal would deliver 561 new homes, a proportion of which (10 per cent) would be ‘affordable’, together with two new football pitches and ancillary facilities and a new cricket pitch and a new pavilion.

"The proposal would also set aside land for a new primary school.

"The only use it won’t provide is a neighbourhood convenience store. However, the site has good access to a range of nearby existing services and facilities. In this respect, the range of uses proposed would be wholly in accordance with the development plan."

She also noted the public consultation period, adding: "BDWH has a genuine interest in bringing forward proposals for the development of the site that will sit well with the community and as such, decided to undertake a community consultation, by way of letter drop and creation of dedicated website to allow local people to review the draft proposals and make comments on them ahead of the submission of the planning application."
