OTHER NEWS:

"Every year thousands of volunteers and supporters organise events that allow us to discover hidden places and try out new experiences.

"Brought to you by the National Trust, supported players of the People's Postcode Lottery and run by thousands of local organisations and volunteers, Heritage Open Days gives everyone free access to experiences and events across England, including access to many sites that usually charge for admission."

In the same statement, the Museum and Archives added the theme is astounding inventions.

They said: "Uncovering places, people and stories that traditional history has overlooked and forgotten has been at the heart of heritage open days.

"Inventions are integral to daily life and yet so easily their historical significance and the inventors can be overlooked , particularly given just how many inventions have been founded in England.

"We want to challenge the risk of forgetfulness by asking our community to celebrate the legacy of English invention.

"Many people in the Whitchurch area had a go at inventing items and some of their ideas are celebrated in a display in the Heritage Centre. "There is even a book for sale listing over 50 patents granted to local people."
