THE Proclamation for the new King will be taking place in Whitchurch this afternoon (Sunday, September 11).

It will be held outside St Alkmund's Church at 4pm and The Proclamation will be read by the mayor of Whitchurch, Councillor Andy Hall.

The town clerk of Whitchurch Town Council, Mike McDonald said there will also be a short prayer of reflection, thanksgiving and celebration from the Reverend Judy Hunt.

He added: "Having received a scroll containing this historic document, the mayor will conduct a short town and parish Proclamation at 4pm outside St Alkmund's Church at 4pm this afternoon.

"This will be preceded by a short prayer of reflection, thanksgiving and celebration from the Reverend Judy Hunt.

"You are welcome to attend both events, in particular the town and parish Proclamation, it is a brief moment of celebration during this period of national mourning.

"There will also be a Service of Prayer and Reflection for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II at 6.30pm this evening at St Alkmund's Church and all are welcome.

"Books of Condolence remain available at the Civic Centre and St Alkmund's when the buildings are open."
