A HERITAGE group in Wem will be holding a tour in the town later this month.

The Heritage Walk and Display is being organised by the Wem Civic Society and will be taking place on Sunday, September 18 and will be from 2pm until 5pm.

Sheila Richardson from the Wem Civic Society said the meeting point will be Wem Methodist Church.

She added: "There are two tours starting at 2pm and 3.15pm.

"Assembly point is in the Methodist Schoolroom.

"The walk covers Aston Street from the Railway Station to the White Lion Inn and finishes with a tour of the building that used to be Sands, a vegetable and flower shop.

"The building predates the Great Fire of Wem, the fire did not get as far as this end of the high street and many older features remain including some from the 17th century.

"The long and narrow layout of the house and garden reflects the mediaeval burgage plot that it was built on.

"Tours and talks led by Oliver Richardson, Tom Edwards and David Smith with support provided by Dr George Nash and Sue Challis.

"Tour is free to members of Wem Civic Society and £2.50 for members of the public.

"There is free admission to the display.

"Booking for the tour is essential since there is a limit on numbers."
