A MARKET stall holder in Whitchurch said she has 'a few worries' as the indoor market prepares to move to locations.

Beryl Fletcher runs a stall in Whitchurch Market in the Civic Centre each Friday and she spoke about proposals to move it to the Market Hall during the Whitchurch Town Council's monthly meeting on Thursday, August 18. The current outdoor market will remain in its usual place each Friday.

Mrs Fletcher said the traders are happy to move but added the market had suffered a lot over the past two years.

She explained: "We are happy to move but we have got a few worries.

"We are a market town and have suffered because of Covid-19.

"I feel we could do with a lot more signs to say where we are, we do a lot on Facebook.

"It would be nice to get an outlook for what we do at the market.

"I am moving on Friday, August 26 and offering 10 per cent off any item. I am just hoping we could have compensation for the move to sweeten everybody and to keep them happy.

The mayor of Whitchurch, Councillor Andy Hall, said he appreciated the pain and was looking at how the market could be promoted and help the traders.

He said: "We are one of the lowest rent stores. I appreciate it is a pain moving again.

"Looking at the market and how we can promote it, perhaps you can advertise stalls in the business group.

"Things are going on in the background."

Cllr Gregory Ebbs added: "Many stall holders have closed.

"It is a long standing problem and it does need to be addressed.

"Our responsibility is to help where we can."
