RELEGATION clouds continue to gather after Wem crashed to an eight wicket defeat at home to Barnard's Green in the second division of the Birmingham Premier League.

Graham Wagg (50) led Wem to just 131 to defend with Josh Tongue (3-21), Ben Clarke (2-10), PG Harris (2-21) and Zain Ul-Hassan (2-28) dominant for the visitors.

George Rhodes (40no) was joined by Ryan Tongue (36) in leading Green to 132-3 in reply as Wem remained rooted to the foot of the table.

Meanwhile Whitchurch returned to form with an emphatic 84 run win at home to Newport in the Mansfield Sports Group Shropshire Premier League.

Mubeen Rashid (68), Maisam Hasnain Jaffri (40) and Shafiq Ahmed (30) led Whitchurch to 264 to defend with Johar Ahmed (2-37), Shabbir Khan (2-48), Ed Parton (2-42) and Saqib Akbar (2-41) sharing the wickets.

Akbar (40) top scored in reply with support from Paul Furniss (34) but Ahmed (3-30), Rashid (2-31) and Daniel Bowen (2-19) ensured their challenge ended for 180.

Meanwhile Ellesmere were thrashed in a 178 run defeat at home to Wroxeter in division two.

Charlie Kidson (103no) and Charlie Haylett (90) led Wroxeter to 272-8 with Ashley Thomas (3-52) and Lawrence Gotts (3-47) leading the wickets.

Elsewhere Wem IIs slipped to a five run defeat at Trysull in division three.

James Blenkinsop (56) led Wem to 183 to defend with Rehan Bari (3-30) and Muhammad Usama (3-44) leading the wickets.

Neil Bennett (75no) carried his bat in reply with Usman Bari (47) helping Trysull to 187-5 with Blenkinsop (3-36) leading the attack.

Meanwhile Calverhall slumped to a 79 run defeat at home to Bridgnorth IIIs in division four.

Richard Ealey (77), Guy Black (33) and Ed Bennett (32) led Bridgnorth to 209-9 despite the efforts of Will Lewis (4-42) and Chris Rowe (3-14).

David Hares (26) top scored in reply as Ben Musgrave (4-43), Shashi Cherukuri (3-10) and Black (2-18) completed Hall's demise for 130.
