WELCOME to the camera club as July reaches a close.

What a month we have had - from record temperatures and travel chaos and all under the backdrop of great political turmoil in Westminster.

While we are far enough away from London for some relief from the goings on in Parliament we must also accept we are all impacted by our elected leaders’ decisions on the climate.

Every country has heatwaves and cold snaps but the searing record breaking temperatures of earlier this month should be a cause of concern for us all.

Simply put the temperature in Blighty should never be hotter than Djibouti as it was during the two day of extremes.

Of course we all like a warm day and all the fun that comes with it. From ice lollies to paddling pools and sunbathing.

However when our experts warn us the heat could kill and homes are burnt to ashes then we, as a country, need to begin asking ourselves some serious questions.

There are no answers to this problem which will appease all.

We need to be driving less and using public transport more so our leaders tell us.

However for that to becomes a reality an unprecedented investment is needed to create a rail, bus and cycle network which is actually fit for purpose.

Until that day is a reality then we will be drawing our curtains and staying indoors as our summers become all the hotter.
