A WHITCHURCH running club has received a grant which will help with training and providing equipment.

The Whitchurch Whippets received £500 from Whitchurch Town Council.

The club says it will go towards the safety and wellbeing of its runners by providing first aid training and essential equipment.

The mayor of Whitchurch, Councillor Andy Hall, met with club officials to formally hand over the cheque on Friday, July 22.

The town clerk of Whitchurch Town Council, Mike McDonald said voluntary groups can apply for funding.

He added: "We were delighted to support Whitchurch Whippets Running Club when they asked for a grant of £500 to ensure the safety and wellbeing of participants by providing first aid training for their leaders alongside some essential equipment.

"Whitchurch Mayor, Andy Hall, paid them a visit earlier today to celebrate their Small Community Grant Award.

"Could your local voluntary group benefit from our support?

"Applications are open for round two funding."
