Name: Sue Jones

Business name: Hopscotch and Skittles

Opening Times: It is usually Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4pm.

When did you open your business and why?

I actually started in Shrewsbury, in Shrewsbury Market Hall and that was 12 years ago.

I was there for three years in a lock up unit.

Basically, it was to take my daughter to sixth form college, so while she was there I set up in a lock up unit in the gallery and we had a single one and it developed into a double one.

When she finished there, I ended up setting up in the little shop across the way at No 56 High Street and I was there for three years and then we moved to a bigger shop over here.

We have been this side for another six years.

It has developed and developed and we specialise in lots of different things.

Why this location?

It was because this became available, it was an ideal size and fitted in with what we wanted to do and because I lived in town so it cut down on travelling, time and everything else.

That was the reason.

We are just out of the centre of the town.

We have found now that the top end of the high street has come on leaps and bounds recently.

Lots of shops have opened here which is really nice.

We have always had at least one shop closed but now we are full up here which is really nice.

So everybody comes up the high street and also people are parking in Sainsburys.

They walk the other way, so they come down the high street.

We are quite nicely situated here.

I find that I have got customers who travel from the Wirral, from Chester, the furthest my customers have come from is Bromsgrove.

They used to come to me in Shrewsbury.

I had some customers who came in the other day from Shrewsbury.

And they come because they know I do something a little bit different.

Tell us about your business?

At the moment we don't do anything online because I find that people like to come in and look at the product and they can touch it and feel it.

To keep the high street going I think you have got to do that.

At the moment we are going through a process of having an online presence but we are trying to keep way from that.

We want it so it is a traditional toy shop where people can come and see.

I will have people who will ring me up and say is it possible to purchase and can you send it and we have done it that way.

So that is a nice way of doing it as well.

We like for people to come in and just what they can see and it all speaks for itself.

I think it is quite nostalgic and it brings back lots of memories from their youth.

What has been your proudest moment so far?

I think it is being able to say I have been here in town nine years or being in business for 12 years.

We work hard, we work hard at home.

It is not just what you see in the shop.

The last couple of days I have been doing personalised bunting which I sew.

I make lots of things myself.

I am proud to think yes I have done this.

It has been successful.

I think in Whitchurch, you'll find with any of the traders and the shops that we have got a lot of loyal customers and local people which is great.

What has been your strangest request?

A couple came in and their son gave them a challenge to find something a bit different.

And they were after an aardvark, a toy and I had actually got an aardvark toy.

That was one of the things and they thought it was going to be such a challenge and I said I had of those.

I can't think of anything else really.
