PEOPLE in Whitchurch are being urged to keep their valuables safe after a theft in one of the town's supermarkets.

The crime happened in Tesco on Friday, July 15, afternoon when a purse was taken without the victim knowing.

Sergeant Tim Lever, of the Whitchurch Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT), said CCTV was reviewed and revealed there were attempts to steal items from other customers as well, but that they have been arrested.

He said on Twitter: "On Friday a theft occurred at Tesco in Whitchurch. The offender stole the victims purse without her realising. From reviewing CCTV attempts to steal items from other shoppers also occurred.

"Whitchurch SNT responded quickly and have since worked with our intel teams and officers from other policing areas and our operational policing unit to locate and arrest the offenders.

"The investigation is ongoing. Please ensure you keep your valuables safe when out.

"Thieves can now access £100 from your accounts using contactless. Never keep records of your pin codes in your wallets/purses. Report any suspicious behaviour."
