TWO people from Ellesmere will have a fortnight to decide whether they are going to elect for a trial at Crown or Magistrates court after denying charges of possessing criminal property.

Edward Goodheart, 45, and Paul Tabbron, of Oswestry Road Ellesmere, appeared in front of District Judge Marcus Waite at Telford Magistrates Court on Tuesday, July 12 charged with acquiring and using criminal property contrary to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

They were accused of having in their possession eight cheques for the TSB Bank between July 19, 2020 and August 28, 2020, with a value of up to £3,050.

The cheques reportedly belonged to a Mr G Goodheart.

Both Edward Goodheart and Ms Tabbron denied the charges when they appeared at the court, following a small period of sickness for the latter.

However, the pair have yet to decide on where their trial will take place as it transpired they had not taken the relevant legal advice on where they could take it.

The offences are what as known as 'either way' meaning they can be heard at both Magistrates or Crown Court but District Judge Waite adjourned proceedings until Wednesday, July 27.

He told the defendants that he did not wish to continue proceedings forward until the pair had received detailed advice from their solicitors on which course of action was appropriate.

This came after Edwards Goodheart told the court they had not received advice on whether to accept a Crown Court trial, with a jury, or continue to Magistrates.

The case will be proceeded after adjournment and once the defendants have received advice.
