A WHITCHURCH garage has been praised by motorists for its cheaper fuel prices at a time when many motorists across the country are struggling with high fuel prices.

DA Roberts Fuel Ltd in Grindley Brook has been bucking the trend by bringing down its prices in recent weeks.

Petrol is currently being sold at 174.9p at the garage.

Ricky Allman, who is the finance manager, said it is nice to see the praise the garage has received from the public.

He added: "It is nice to see people appreciate it because we do try to keep our prices as low as we possibly can.

"We have a set way whatever our buying price is, we have a set formula to work out our selling price.

"We try and make a little and sell a lot rather than make a lot and sell a little.

"They are really high, the high prices don't suit us.

"The actual difference we can make on the pump side is tiny in comparison to the overall price.

"The majority of it is made on VAT, duty and prices the oil refiners make.

"The actual retailers do not make a lot at all out of the actual pump price."

Ricky said the garage has received customers from beyond Whitchurch.

He said: "Public transport links are not great in a rural area, so you are restricted to use your car.

"We do try and keep our prices as low as we can.

"We have a lot of comments on our Facebook, people saying they are travelling from Nantwich, Market Drayton and different places where they are seeing prices at 15p a litre more.

"So, it is worth them coming when it is that sort of difference."

The garage is going to be rebranded to Essar Oil in the coming weeks and Ricky hopes this will help consumers.

He said: "We are just in the process of rebranding to Essar Oil, which is the company which owns the oil refinery at Ellesmere Port.

"We've signed a contract to move to them from Texaco.

"We are shut for a couple of days, and we are reopening on July, 27.

"Hopefully we will be even more competitive then, we are going to be able to fetch our own fuel for our forecourt.

"We will be able to be even more responsive to the fuel market changes.

"Hopefully, we will be able to save the public a bit more money there to."
