A FAMILY fun day is going to be held in Whixall to raise money for a well-known cancer centre as a way of saying thank you for the treatment a local woman received.

Whixall Social Centre will be hosting the fun day on Saturday, July 23 from 10am until 4pm to raise money for the Lingen Davies Centre which is based in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The event will be a special moment for Whitchurch resident Kerry Clorley because it will be one year to the day since she received her first chemotherapy treatment.

Kerry said she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and praised the hospital for the support she has received.

She added: "I got diagnosed in the February last year right in the height of Covid-19.

"From day one of actually getting diagnosed, I was dealt with nothing but utter respect and urgency.

"Everything was done within two to three weeks.

"Shrewsbury and Telford hospital, I cannot fault them for that cancer treatment.

"They are getting a lot of flak at the moment, and they don't deserve it."

Kerry said she received the all-clear in February and said there will be several stores and events at the upcoming fun day.

She explained: "I had my operations, and then I was told I had to have chemo.

"I started my chemo in July, finished that, I had radio therapy and finished that on December 9 last year.

"And I got all clear in February this year.

"So, then we decided we are going to do this fun day.

"There are loads of artisan stores, there is a football penalty shootout competition, there are loads of games for the kids, hot food on the day and a massive raffle."

Kerry said she has received support for the event from both businesses and individuals in Whixall and Whitchurch.

She explained: "Absolutely massive, we have had the Factory Shop in Whitchurch donate a raffle prize prize.

"Lornashouse, they have donated a raffle prize.

"We have got the Horse and Jockey in Northwood.

"There is that many.

"Local people in Whixall, we sold raffle tickets, nearly half of the raffle tickets, nearly £1,000 of raffle tickets up till now.

"There are people who have put raffle tickets in the shops, the flyers are up all-around Whitchurch and Wem."
