WITH plenty of greenery and lots to do, it's no surprise that Whitchurch is a popular destination for caravanners in the UK.

But a recent survey from a money website measuring best value has put the north Shropshire town joint-second as one of the best UK holidays for caravans.

Whitchurch slots behind Bridport, in Dorset, with Clacton-on-Sea in Essex as the best way to enjoy a holiday in the UK, especially with the increase in the cost of living crisis and the ever-increasing number of cancelled flights abroad.

This is according to Money Barn, a website that offers vehicle insurance, who had given a breakdown of why people head to Whitchurch, which was given a score of 7.3 out of 10.

It said: "With the cost of living rising significantly this year, many people are turning to more affordable means of holidaying, the most popular of which is caravanning in the countryside.

"Caravanning is the perfect way to explore the rich history and natural beauty of parts of the country often overlooked in favour of foreign holidays.

"But which UK holiday destinations are the best for a caravan holiday?

"To find out, we have analysed the road safety, weather conditions, number of attractions, caravan site reviews and prices in popular staycation destinations to see which can be crowned the top destination.

"Taking the top spot as the best location for a caravan staycation is the Dorset town of Bridport.

"Bridport ranks highly across the board placing in the top 20 for the number of attractions per 100,000 people, the average temperature in July, and the cost of caravan site rental.

"Sharing second place are Whitchurch and Clacton-on-Sea. Both share the top spot for caravan site reviews, scoring a perfect five out of five for the factor.

"The Shropshire market town of Whitchurch has one of the highest average temperatures in July, taking third place for the factor and has some of the safest roads in our index too, ranking in the top 10."

There are a number of caravanning and camping sites around the town including Whitchurch Marina and Hadley Park, near the A41.
