POLICE have issued a warning to a driver following after receiving complaints from residents of Whitchurch about anti-social driving in the town.

Officers from Whitchurch Safer Neighbourhood Team issued a Section 59 to one driver on Friday, July 1 after he was spotted engaging in anti-social driving in a car park where pedestrians were walking about in poor lighting.

Under a Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002, police can issue a warning regarding the anti-social use of a vehicle and have the power to seize the vehicle should the same offence be committed within 12 months.

PCSO Hannah Lister from Whitchurch SNT said the team had warned a group of people what would happen if they drove in an anti-social manner.

She added: "Whitchurch SNT has been having complaints sent to us regarding anti-social driving in and around Whitchurch and surrounding areas.

"Last week we engaged with a group of vehicle owners in the offending area.

"All were given some words of advice regarding the complaints and what could potentially happen should they continue to drive in an anti-social manner.

"Unfortunately one driver did not take heed to the warning and was seen by myself engaging again in anti-social driving in a car park where pedestrians were walking about in poor lighting.

"As such this person has today been issued with a Section 59.

"Please report any further instances to us so we can deal."
