A PET and country stores business in Shrewsbury has been bought out by a family firm from near Whitchurch.

The Grocott Group will be taking control of the Nixon's Pet and Country Store which is located in Harlescott Barns for almost 20 years and sells an extensive range of animal food and associated products, primarily for domestic pets.

The group has appointed Jayne Allman and Phil Owen, who are both from Whitchurch, to manage the store and they will be joined by Sam Greenway who lives in Ellesmere.

Jayne said she was fortunate for the opportunity to manage the store.

She added: "Phil and I feel very fortunate to be given the chance to manage Nixon's with its diverse range of quality products and feeds for so many different types of animals and birds.

"We were both brought up to love nature and wildlife and we’re so enjoying listening to all the wide-ranging stories and experiences from our customers about their pets and wildlife.

"We are able to buy products in bulk as we have our own large storage facility on-site which means we can offer high quality products at very competitive prices.

"We are loving learning about different products and welcome any advice to help the business grow whilst still keeping the old-fashioned charm and friendly service.

"Customers are very welcome to bring their dogs into our store too."

Previously, Jayne was director of retailer Colour Supplies Home and Garden which has branches in Whitchurch, Oswestry and Wrexham and she recently worked at Bradley Green Pet Store near Whitchurch.

Phil managed his family's bookmaking business for 25 years.

To coincide with the new ownership, the business has launched a new identity which will feature on store signage, staff uniform and products.
