A NEW book shop has been opened in Malpas.

Magpie Books is an independent book store which sells new and second hand books for all ages and has reading groups and activities for your readers.

The store is run by Sian Hughes with her sister, Ellen.

Sian said the shop can serve as a community hub.

She added: "It can be a community hub where people can meet together and communicate about books they read.

"And get advice about what else they would like to read and meet other people."

Sian both she and her sister are big readers.

She added: "The book shop is run by myself, my sister and some other young helpers.

"It is something we have always wanted to do.

"We are both fanatical readers, it seems like the obvious fit for us."

Sian said the there were many things for people to do.

She explained: "My sister Ellen, she's is a story teller and children's entertainer.

"She has run the first mini Magpies group for under-5s this week.

"We have got reading clubs which are free for grown ups, a book of the month club and a poetry reading club.

"There is a group of people who have been spreading the word in The Cedars popping in and they are going to come to our launch part event.

"It is really nice because people in The Cedars are meeting up with each other and organising to go out together.

"A little outing, a group of them walking to the bookshop is a nice little event for them."
