AN AMERICAN tour party discovering their ancestral roots were shown round a village near Whitchurch.
Terry Cohea toured Combermere Abbey along with her husband, nieces and nephew.
After years of research, Terry discovered that her 12 times great grandfather was Sir Richard Cotton who inherited the country manor at Combermere.
Terry thanked their tour guide for showing them round the country manor.
She added: "I’ve studied family history for years and recently discovered my 12 times great-grandfather was Sir Richard Cotton, who inherited the country manor in the 1500s and who restored the library, along with some exterior rooms.
"Our tour guide was Myra Logan and she beautifully told the wonderful history of the centuries of owners of the Abbey, including Lord Combermere, up to it’s current ownership.
"Our private tour was way beyond our expectations, and we’re personally grateful for each person and benefactor who continue to preserve the Abbey so people like us from the USA can benefit from the fruits of all who laboured."
