THE charities set to benefit from the return of the Jubilee Bell Boat Regatta in Ellesmere have been named by the town's Rotary Club.

Ellesmere Rotary has announced the main beneficiaries of the 2022 Jubilee Bell Boat Regatta will be two charities with strong local links.

The Rotary club will be using the monies made from the day on the water, making its first return since 2019, to donate towards the Lyneal Trust and Oswestry's Movement Centre.

Graham Hutchinson, form the club, said: "The Lyneal Trust maintains three narrow boats, a Wharf Cottage and chalets for use by families and groups that require disabled facilities.

"The Trust provides opportunities for disabled people to enjoy day trips and holidays based on the local canal system.

"Currently its fundraising efforts are aimed at financing an update for Wharf Cottage.

"The second is the Movement Centre, which is based adjacent to the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital at Gobowen.

"The Centre is a separate entity that is entirely funded by charitable donations and helps children with early years movement control problems in Shropshire and neighbouring counties.

"It provides specialist physiotherapy and patient specific bioengineering to fashion the right equipment to achieve the correct standing posture and movement.

"The Centre must raise a minimum of £200,000 each year to continue with its vital work."

The Regatta takes place annually on The Mere on the first Sunday in July (3rd) and is accompanied by a host of other attractions on the adjacent Cremorne Gardens, plus refreshment stalls and children's activities.

Chairman of the Regatta Committee, Geoff Corfield, added: “The occasion is a wonderful day out for all the family, and we are pleased that the event is able to go ahead in Jubilee year, especially as the last two years were lost to the Covid restrictions."

Entries from crews are still coming in, but those who have not yet done so are urged to do so quickly.

Registration takes place at 11am with the first race at 11.30am, with three classes for the Bell Boat races of open, ladies and youth.
