A WOMAN'S RAF (WRAF) veteran is attempting to track down the living relatives of an airman, with connections to Whitchurch, who died during the Second World War.

Brenda Kelly hopes to track descendants of Warrant Officer Harold Edward Allen, the only child of Albert Edward Allen who was from Whitchurch.

Warrant Officer Allen was killed in 1943 during a bombing raid over Germany while he was serving in RAF Bomber Command.

Brenda said she is helping author Graham Waterton, the nephew of the pilot that flew aircraft Harold was on before his death.

She added: "I do Bomber Command research.

"I am helping someone who is writing a book, his uncle was the pilot on the Lancaster bomber.

"So, he is trying to find all the families, I have helped him find four of the seven crew so far.

"I have been in touch Harold's wife's family, but he was only married for five weeks before he died.

"She remarried so the family now are the ones who know the second husband.

"They do not have much knowledge at all, they just know the name Harold."

Brenda said she had been sending messages on a Whitchurch Facebook group to trace extended family in the town.

The former WRAF veteran added: "I have just sent a message on the Facebook page.

"I have typed in the surname Tudor and I have sent one lady a message this morning asking if she was related.

"One of his father's brothers was called William Tudor Allen so the name is quite prominent.

"And as well, there are a few Yeomans in Whitchurch, so I will be sending them the same sort of messages saying you are in the family tree, does it mean anything, Albert Allen or Harold Allen.

"I just keep chipping away."

Brenda said she hoped she would make up more ground but believes it will come once she does.

She said: "I am sure they will get a breakthrough.

"This is how much research I have got to put into it.

"Every two or three days I come up with a new plan.

"I knock on the doors of the RAF Associations and the British Legion and contact churches.

"I am trying my hardest but until I can get that breakthrough I have to keep trying."
