A WEM woman has spoken of the disappointment when her flight for a family overseas holiday was cancelled because of staffing issues at Manchester Airport.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, was to fly from Manchester to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands in two weeks with her partner and young son.
She said it would have been her first holiday in five years and her son's first ever overseas holiday.
The woman said it was disappointing but 'relieving at the same time.'
She said: "Before Covid-19, it has probably been about five years since we have been abroad anywhere.
"It was disappointing because the idea of taking him on holiday was really exciting.
"So, it was very disappointing, it was also massively relieving for an anxious mum taking her child away for the first time."
The woman said she was glad she had been told in advance her holiday was being cancelled.
She said: "I really appreciated the fact that they did actually give us so much notice.
"We were supposed to have been flying out on June 27 and I got the email last Monday or Tuesday.
"I would hate to have been one of those people who gets to the airport, has a 10-hour delay and then their holiday is cancelled.
"That would have been my worst nightmare.
"Everything is explained in the email about what to do next."
The woman said the travel company has enabled her to rebook her holiday.
"You can rebook a holiday straightaway," she said.
"And they are offering a 20 per cent off whatever you book which I thought was fair enough.
"Or you can get a full refund and if you don't do anything at all they will automatically refund you.
"It is not like you have to chase loads of different things trying to get your money back, they automatically refund in 14 days."
The mother of one said she, her partner and their son would be taking a few trips within the UK, including to the seaside.
She added: "We're going to have the refund.
"We have still got the week off at the end of June, we are going to go on some day trips.
"Maybe do the weekend at the seaside instead."
The family are looking to use the refund money to book a trip to Florida, the following October.
She said: "We are going to put the rest of our refund money together and we are looking at the following October.
"We are going to take him to Florida, to Disney instead."
