AN ELLESMERE man who was nearly three times the drink driving limit when he crashed his car in the town has been banned from the roads for 25 months.

Wayne Meredith, of Smithfield Way, provided a breath test to police officers who had been called to a road traffic collision on the A495 – near the Mere – which he had been involved in on Sunday, April 18.

Officers found Meredith's silver Vauxhall Vivaro van with considerable damage after it had collided with a blue BMW, and he was found with a glazed expression and unable to speak.

He was breathalysed and rescored 91 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, around two-and-a-half times the legal limit.

Representing himself after legal advice, Meredith pleaded guilty to the offence.

He said: "I just want to apologise to you all for putting myself in this stupid position.

"I take full responsibility and it's a stupid one-off incident."

Meredith was banned for 25 months but can reduce that by 25 weeks if he complete's a driver's rehabilitation course by October 2023.

He was fined £1,038, will pay costs of £135 and a victim surcharge of £35.
