POLICE have discovered part of a golf club during a weapons sweep in Whitchurch supporting a nationwide campaign to tackle knife crime.

Officers from Whitchurch Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) also uncovered a number of nitrous oxide canisters (laughing gas) in Queensway Park.

The sweep took place as part of the nationwide campaign running this week which is known as Operation Spectre.

PSCO Hannah Lister from the team said drugs were also found.

She added: "We have located part of a golf club which appeared to be hidden under a hedgerow.

"We have also located a number of nitrous oxide canisters which is an increasing trend we’ve noticed across our policing areas.

"While not illegal to possess, it is illegal to supply these and anyone caught in possession will be dealt with accordingly.
