A CHESHIRE MP has welcomed the recruitment of extra police officers into Cheshire as part of a pledge to increase the number of officers on the street.

Eddisbury MP Edward Timpson welcomed the recruitment of 189 new police officers in Cheshire since September 2019 which has brought the number of police officers in Cheshire Constabulary to 2,269.

The Conservative Government has pledged to recruit 20,000 new police officers by March 2023.

Mr Timpson said the new officers would help keep crime down and said only the Conservatives could be trusted to keep people safe.

The Tory MP added: "From working with Cheshire Constabulary, I know just how valuable more police officers will be in helping crack down on crime in our local community.

"The 189 additional recruits mean there are now 2,269 police officers in Cheshire, helping to pursue criminals, keep neighbourhoods safe, and reassure the law-abiding majority.

"These figures also reveal that where Labour are in power, they are failing to deliver.

"Once again this demonstrates that only the Conservatives can be trusted to keep people safe and deliver on the priorities of the British people."
